Community Grocery Down Town

In April 2022 we opened the Burnley Community Grocery at Valley St Community Centre. In April 2023 we celebrated one year of the Grocery with now over 2,500 members accessing our support!

The Community Grocery has had a tremendous impact on our community and has also had a transformative impact on our staff and volunteers.

Daniella Steenbergen became our Manager in April 2022 with Tom Blackledge serving as the Assistant Manager. Tom is now full-time at the Grocery and Kristina Chukvuma has been added to the team as a 2nd Assistant Manager in order to open our second Burnley store which opened May 2023.

The 2nd Community Grocery has been created in partnership with Burnley Together, Burnley Council, Burnley FC in the Community, Calico and Burnley Leisure. This collaborative partnership will create a town centre shop called ‘Down Town.’

When people come to ‘Down Town’ they’ll find the Community Grocery, a community cafe, a school uniform shop, a training room for courses run by Life Church and other partners like CAP and Alpha, an incredible training kitchen and other community services.

We are passionate about impacting our community and serving the region. The Community Grocery at Down Town will be another expression of our vision as a church community in doing this. To find out more about the wider work of the Community Grocery go to

To visit ‘Down Town’ pop along any Monday – Friday between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm. Down Town is located at 83 Market House, Charter Walk. We are on the balcony with access via the stairs, ramp or lift.

You can donate food any Sunday to the Grocery by putting food in our trolley and can sign up to be a volunteer either at the Grocery or at reception at Life Church.
